New Books – WooHoo

The problem with summer reading lists is all about good intentions, and the abundance of fabulous new books I can’t WAIT to read. I make my list, even get started on it, and bring home the books I plan on reading this summer. And then . . . . then I make by way to ALA’s Annual Convention. This year 12,000+ library types, and 4,000+ vendors descended on New Orleans. I have a lot to say about what I saw and thought about the post-hurricane Louisiana so feel free to ask if you see me but there are others who have said it better so far. Suffice it to say I will be finding a way to continue to donate money to the rebuilding cause, and I wish I could have done some volunteer work while I was there instead of being in meetings but truly that is another story. The point of mentioning being at the convention in regards to my summer reading list is I brought home a number of new Advanced Reading copies that have shot my list all to hell.
Like New Moon, the second in Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight trilogy. And John Green’s latest: An Abundance of Katherines. Meg Rosoff has a new one coming in August: Just in Case. I also picked up a copy of e. lockhart’s follow up to the boyfriend listthe boy book. There is one that seems a little murder mystery called The Angel of Death by Alane Ferguson. Oh oh oh – I also picked up Gail Giles new book What Happened to Cass McBride, I will have to dig into that soon. Two others I am looking forward to – Bleed by Laurie Stolarz and maybe by Brent Runyon (love the cover by the way). And hopefully buried in the ones I haven’t mentioned is another Ball Don’t Lie by Matt de la Pena which I picked up last summer and LOVED!
And then there are the new releases I am excited about. Like The Rules of Survival by Nancy Werlin which lucky for me doesn’t come out until the fall. Another fall release – Psyche in a Dress by Francesca Lia Block is also on my radar. Oh and Sarra Manning has a new one – Lets Get Lost – due out in October. So many books so little time. ::::sigh::::: I just went cliche.
Anyways if you are one of my students, or even staff, checking in this summer and there is something you are dying to read (New Moon????) may I suggest letting me know in the comments. I will keep a list and maybe let you know a time during the summer when you can swing by school and pick up books.
